TOO PROUD TO DO A SIMPLE THING
Great doors swing on little hinges. In the Bible story about Naaman we read of a little word, a little girl and a man who was too proud to do a little thing.
Naaman was a great captain of the Syrian army, a favourite with the king and the people BUT he was a leper. What a big difference that little word 'but' makes.
But there was a little servant girl in Naaman's house who had been captured from Israel. She spoke up for God and said, "If only my master was in my country, there is a prophet who could make him better."
When the king of Syria heard this he immediately wrote a letter for Naaman to take to the king of Israel. When he presented the letter, the king was furious, "Am I a god," he said, "that he wants me to heal a leper?" When Elisha the prophet heard this he said, "Let Naaman come to me and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.
Soon Naaman arrived at Elisha's house but he was annoyed when only a servant came out. He was even more upset by the message from Elisha, "Go and wash in Jordan seven times and you will be healed." Naaman turned away in a rage saying, "Are not the rivers of Damascus better, why can't I wash in them and be healed?!" Fortunately he had some wise servants who quietened him down by showing him what a simple thing he had to do. Eventually Naaman dipped in the Jordan and was healed.
We all have a disease called 'SIN' in our hearts. God has only one way of salvation through faith in Christ's death for us. It's utter folly to be too proud to simply accept this free offer. [ Do read 2 Kings chapter 5 ].
