THE SAVED PENALTY

Football is an excellent game so it's very sad to see it brought into disrepute by a small number of players or spectators.  No-one of course would ever blame the game.

For over 2000 years the excellent name of Jesus has been brought into disrepute by the bad behaviour of imperfect Christians and hypocrites.  No-one of course who loves Jesus would ever blame Him or use the bad behaviour of a minority as an excuse for abandoning Christianity.  Those who reject Christ because some professing Christians have brought Him into disrepute cannot expect their case to stand up in the day of judgement.

Someone said, "If you find the perfect church don't join it because you'll spoil it!"  The same principle could be applied to football clubs.  No association of any kind in this world is perfect because no human being is perfect.  A grave digger once said, "I work amongst perfect people.  I've never heard a wrong word said about any of them!"  We all know in our hearts that we are not perfect and the Bible confirms this when it states, "If we say that we have no sin we deceive ourselves."  [ 1 John ch 1 v 8 ]

Out of the millions who have lived on earth only the Lord Jesus Christ stands out as the absolutely perfect man.  Pontius Pilate said, "I find no fault in this Man."  The Centurion by the Cross said, "Certainly this was a righteous Man."  One of the thieves being crucified with Jesus said, "This Man has done nothing wrong." [ Luke ch 23 ]  Finally even Judas Iscariot admitted, "I have betrayed the innocent blood." [ Matthew ch 27 v 4 ].

Because the Lord Jesus was perfect, He alone could save the 'penalty' for sin that I deserved.  Such love demands my allegiance before the final whistle blows!
